What I’m Here For
★★★★☆ Powerful
What I’m Here For, a collaboration between Vanishing Point and Teater Katapult from Aarhus, Denmark, is an intelligent and compelling piece of politically-informed drama.
Comedy Double Bill
★★★★☆ Entertaining
Edinburgh Theatre Arts’ Comedy Double Bill is a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with one half being diverting and the other half outstanding.
The Pillowman
★★★☆☆ Protracted
The Pillowman, by EUTC at the Bedlam for three performances only, succeeds on many levels but cannot fully overcome some obvious problems.
Sister Act
★★★★☆ Melodic
Sister Act, by Forth Children’s Theatre at Broughton High School, is a tuneful production with bags of energy, featuring some exceptionally promising performers.
The High Life
★★★★★ Flying
Reviving a 30-year-old sitcom as a stage musical might seem a safe bet, or an exercise in nostalgia. This is far from the case with The High Life. The touring production is vibrant, joyous and utterly hilarious.
Footloose
★★★★☆ Great entertainment
Edinburgh Music Theatre’s Footloose at the Church Hill is notably well-staged, energetic and highly enjoyable.
PPP: Miss Lockwood Isn’t Well
★★★☆☆ Patchy
Miss Lockwood Isn’t Well by James Reilly, the last of the Spring season of Òran Mór’s Play, A Pie and A Pint productions at the Traverse, is an intriguing comedy that contains some moments which misfire.
The Light House
★★★★☆ Hugely affecting
The Light House from Alys Williams is a production of real emotional power. It appeared at the Traverse for one performance only at the start of an extensive Scottish tour, but should certainly be caught elsewhere by anyone who has the chance.
