Traverse
Thrice
★★★☆☆ Intense
Thrice, stopping at the Traverse at the end of a short Scottish tour for two performances only, presents nine witches (three times three) in the aftermath of Macbeth
PPP: Bottom’s Dream
★★★★☆ Smart
The last in this season of Òran Mór’s A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Traverse, is a good one to go out on. Bottom’s Dream, written and performed by Martin O’Connor, is clever and constantly amusing, making necessary and cogent points about the theatre.
The Void
★★★☆☆ Atmospheric
The Void, at the Traverse for three performances, is an intriguing if not entirely successful production from Yorkshire-based Thunder Road in association with the Watford Palace Theatre.
PPP: The Whaler’s Wife
★★★☆☆ Atmospheric
The Whaler’s Wife, the first in the new season of Òran Mór’s Play, A Pie and A Pint offerings at the Traverse, is a compelling if uneven historical drama blending myth, music and more modern elements.
Little Animals
★★★★★ Brilliant
Little Animals at the Traverse @ Lyceum Studio is an astonishing piece of theatre. It deals with urgent concerns in a way that is inventive, compassionate and beautifully performed.
Cathy
★★★☆☆ Excellently performed
Cathy from the Traverse is a bleakly funny play that has an excellent central performance but struggles to convince entirely.
After Party
★★☆☆☆ No party
After Party at the Traverse has all of the ingredients for a statement drama but ends up rather undercooked.
The Singer
★★★★☆ Ebullient
The Singer at the Traverse is a joyous, energetic piece of musical theatre that is going to win many friends.
Bog Witch
★★★★☆ Electric
Bog Witch by Bryony Kimmings at the Traverse (from Avalon and Tellus) is a tremendous piece of theatre full of apparent contrasts – personal and resonant, knowing and stupid, messy and tightly controlled.
