The Producers
★★★★☆ Flop stars:
Two men in search of a flop, star in a show that’s anything but as the Producers stops by the Festival Theatre for a week.
Spamalot
✭✭✭✭✩ Medieval dead funny:
There’s no pork, but plenty of spice and some jolly enjoyable ham as the Monty Python musical returns to Edinburgh – with far fewer Spam references than you might expect from the title.
Return to the Forbidden Planet
✭✭✭✭✩ Star struck:
With enough energy to power a spaceship, Return to the Forbidden Planet takes the audience at the Festival Theatre on a journey into sheer delight.
Hyde & Seek
✭✭✭✭✩ On a Hyding to something
There’s a little bit of Mr Hyde in all of us. That’s the compelling notion Michael Daviot explores in his one-man show Hyde and Seek at C Venues.
Writer’s Block
✭✭✭✩✩ I’ll Take This Manhattan
Riverside Drive and Old Saybrook are packed with typically over-educated and over-analytical characters in this Woody Allen double bill, staged with great comedic effect by Edinburgh Theatre Arts.
Lace Up
✭✭✭✭✩ Drama with punch
Expect blood, sweat and tears in this searing drama looking at the price a young boxer from Edinburgh is asked to pay on his way to the top.
All Creatures Great and Small
✭✭✭✭✩ Wise and wonderful
The dales are alive with the sound of animals. We don’t see ’em on the stage of the King’s Theatre, though. Maybe that’s down to the old ‘never work with children or animals’ edict, or health and safety rules.
Avenue Q
★★★★★ Streets ahead
An adults-only take on Sesame Street, Avenue Q teaches us a thing or two about life while being one of the wittiest, most tuneful shows in Broadway history.
