Oot and aboot on the Fringe. Day (-1)
The Ducks, Brotherly Love, Maroon Hearts and Emerald Blue… By Thom Dibdin On a wet and muggy day in Edinburgh it hardly seemed fair that the fringe was just one day away from opening officially. But hey-ho, it rained on St Swithin’s Day, so folklore suggests Edinburgh is due 40 days rain. Weather only for […]
Out and about on the Fringe. Day (-2)
Dance Marathon, Lounge Room Confabulators and Creative Scotland’s CEO hoofing on the dancefloor By Thom Dibdin There’s a whole day until the official start of the Edinburgh Fringe, on Friday 5th of August. Unofficially, however, the whole thing had already kicked off, big style, on Wednesday the 3rd, with at least five major venue press-launches. […]
Æ Blog – It’s party time…
Win a party pack for The Blues Brothers Party at the Festival Theatre By Thom Dibdin We hate all Nazis here at the Annals of Edinburgh Stage. A vile and despicable political adherence. And thanks to John Landis’ brilliant Blues Brothers movie we have a special place of opprobrium reserved for Illinois Nazis. Besides which, […]
Æ Blog – Quinn’s Pics Peek Behind EIF Scenes
Looking behind the scenes of EIF 2010 with Claudine Quinn’s photographic exhibition at The Hub 2010 24/7 A Festival in photographs By Thom Dibdin A festival is an ephemeral thing, as EIF Artistic Director Jonathan Mills commented at the opening of this fascinating exhibition up at the EIF’s HQ: The Hub. Seasons Greetings!

My personal thanks to all the performers, creatives, back-stage, technical and front-of-house staff who have contrived to make 2010 on Edinburgh’s stages […]
Æ Blog – Interview with the Gerard Kelly
Scottish actor Gerard Kelly dies in London
Very sad to hear that Gerard Kelly has died of a brain aneurysm, at the age 51. He was a consummate panto-pal in his performances in the Glasgow King’s pantomimes, where I was privileged to see him on several occasions.
App-tastic Edinburgh Fringe
All the Edinburgh Fringe iPhone apps reviewed:
Updates came in thick and fast for the handful of iPhone apps which launched early for this year’s Edinburgh Fringe – with more venues promising apps for their own programmes, and even more updates in the pipeline.
The Vicious Circle
First published in The Stage, March 18 2010 Now entering its fifth year, the National Theatre of Scotland has suffered considerable criticism in recent times through the press, with accusations that it is failing to fulfil its duty as a promote of Scottish theatrical tradition. Such vilification is misguided, argues Thom Dibdin, and in fact […]
Of Whales, Goats and other Literary Officers…
By Thom Dibdin At the Traverse on Wednesday night, to see the very wonderful Spymonkey’s Moby Dick for a review in Friday’s Evening News, and it seemed that the place had been flash mobbed. Not only was the performance sold out but they were turning people away. The full house certainly enjoyed themselves, with the […]
