Church Hill Theatre
Hairspray

The Balerno Theatre Company go back to Baltimore in the swinging 60s for their uplifting and energetic production of Hairspray at the Church Hill Theatre to Saturday.
On Golden Pond
★★★☆☆ Crystal clear:
Leitheatre’s production of On Golden Pond at the Church Hill is a warm and emotional evocation of family struggles and satisfactions that rarely ignites but is performed with diligence and grace.
Made in Dagenham
★★★★☆ Up-standing:
As the political stew bubbles over the edges of the Westminster cauldron, Allegro’s big and bold production of Made in Dagenham reminds us of a time when politics was a lot more simple – and the issues were even more fundamental.
Showcase 2019
★★★★☆ Melodic juggernaut:
Showcase 2019 at the Church Hill Theatre is an object lesson in how to ring the changes on a familiar formula and keep the result delightfully fresh.
It Runs In The Family
★★★★☆ Like a hurricane:
There are breezy comedies – and then there is Edinburgh People’s Theatre’s It Runs In The Family, which soon reaches gale force and stays there.
Sweet Charity
★★★★★ Charity ball:
The minute you walk in the joint, you can see Sweet Charity at the Church Hill Theatre until Saturday, is a show of distinction.
Prescription For Murder
★★★☆☆ Pleasing:
Prescription For Murder, from the Edinburgh Makars at the Church Hill Theatre, is one of those odd English crime dramas that provide more reassurance than apprehension.
The Cemetery Club
★★★★☆ Gravely good:
The Cemetery Club is a low-key, deeply traditional play, but in the hands of Edinburgh People’s Theatre it has a gentle resonance that is rather affecting.
The Sound of Music
★★★★☆ Clear-voiced:
Youth musicals company A-Team Productions has pulled out all the musical stops this week in a hugely enjoyable production of The Sound of Music up at the Church Hill Theatre.
Dear Brutus
★★★★☆ Old world charm:
Threepenny Theatricals’ Dear Brutus at the Church Hill is a resolutely odd piece, hugely uneven in tone, but discharged with such grace and skill that is compulsively watchable.
