The Wonderful World of Dissocia
✭✭✭✭✭ Heartbreaking escapism
It’s not every day that a show comes along that can profoundly affect you. The Wonderful World of Dissocia from the Grads is one such rare gem; it is charming, enchanting and poignant.
Boxman
✭✭✭✭✩ One-man wonder
Many plays tread a fine line between comedy and pathos. Such delicacy is not for Boxman in the Gilded Balloon Turret. Rather, it unheedingly hurls itself across that line with extremely successful results.
Buffer
★★★☆☆ Buff enough:
There’s huge fun to be had in Thrive Theatre’s Buffer at The Space on North Bridge – and some deeply felt emotion too.
Avenue Q
✭✭✭✭✩ Shooting for the stars
Remember when you were young and they said you were special? That you could do anything you wanted if you just believed? Well, they lied.
First Class
★★★☆☆ Train of thought:
Cleverly crafted and emotionally realistic, writer and director James Beagon’s show is always interesting even if it ultimately falls short in some areas.
Brave MacBeth
✭✭✭✭✩ Foot-tapping treason
Something wicked this way comes to the Famous Spiegeltent in St Andrews Square this fringe. As part of their Did Not Deserve to Die series, Captivate Drama, present the grisly Scottish Play.
Bugsy Malone
✭✭✭✭✩ They have got IT!
Captivate Theatre deliver a charming, uplifting and heartwarming tale about warring gangsters that demonstrates that any body who is anybody will be at their party.
Warrior
✭✭✭✭✩ All too real
Considered and compelling, Black Dingo Productions’ Warrior deals with ingrained sectarianism in a believable way.
Les Miserables
✭✭✭✭✭ Hear the people sing
Skilful, energetic and packing a real emotional punch, Forth Children’s Theatre’s Les Misérables is as impressive a musical production as you are likely to see on the Fringe – or anywhere else.
