Bedlam Theatre
Cogito, Ergo… Something?
★★★★☆ Dark
Cogito, Ergo…Something?, written and directed by James Harvey and performed by the Edinburgh University Theatre Company at their iconic Bedlam Theatre home (“not a church”, as the helpful sign says outside) has very dark roots.
Mother, Maiden and Crone
★★★★★ Queer excellence
An homage to the Edinburgh queer scene, Mother, Maiden and Crone, playing at Bedlam Theatre all Fringe, turns Macbeth into an uproarious farcical comedy about a hen do gone wrong at a struggling gay bar.
The Pillowman
★★★☆☆ Protracted
The Pillowman, by EUTC at the Bedlam for three performances only, succeeds on many levels but cannot fully overcome some obvious problems.
Ruddigore: The Witch’s Curse
★★★★★ Electric verve
Ruddigore: The Witch’s Curse, presented by the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group at the Bedlam Theatre to Saturday, is absurdly good.
The History Boys
★★★★☆ Intelligent
Energy, fine acting and a great deal of thought characterise The History Boys at the Bedlam, where it runs through to Saturday.
Ulster American
★★★★☆ Spirited
Ulster American, from EUTC at the Bedlam for two performances only, is an intelligently staged production of an explosive piece.
