Plano
★★★★★ Thrilling microcosm
Plano, presented by Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group for EdFringe Week One, feels like David Lynch, Tennessee Williams and Luigi Pirandello formed a fractious throuple in some netherworld multiverse. That is meant as high praise, just don’t expect the play to make any Newtonian kind of sense.
The Pillowman
★★★☆☆ Protracted
The Pillowman, by EUTC at the Bedlam for three performances only, succeeds on many levels but cannot fully overcome some obvious problems.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
★★★☆☆ Clear
New grassroots company Gutter Theatre give a commendably solid showing for their inaugural production: Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, playing upstairs at Assembly Roxy to Saturday.
Road
★★★★☆ Emotionally resonant
The EUTC production of Road at the Bedlam is far too long and distinctly baggy in places. It is also vibrant, accomplished and compelling.
