Open Call for Sorcerer
Eusog seeks non-student actors for March production:
Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group has put out an open call to audition for its March 2018 production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Savoy Opera, The Sorcerer.
The Sorcerer
★★★★☆ What larks:
For careful execution and straightforward fun, it is difficult to imagine many recent productions of Gilbert and Sullivan have beaten Cat-Like Tread’s The Sorcerer at Paradise in Augustines.
Sasha Regan’s All Male The Mikado
★★★★☆ Entertaining:
Clever, witty and tuneful, Sasha Regan’s all male The Mikado, at the King’s to Saturday, ticks the necessary boxes for a successful night of G&S operetta.
Ruddygore
★★★☆☆ Precise:
Musically rigorous and staged with clarity, there is a definition to EDGAS’s Ruddygore than compensates for a certain lack of sparkle.
H.M.S. Pinafore
★★★☆☆ Studiedly frivolous:
Flirty and frivolous, Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s H.M.S. Pinafore, at the Assembly Roxy to Saturday, sees the company mustering its resources well.
Cat-like try-out
Come-and-try G&S event:
Edinburgh-based amateur musicals company, Cat-Like Tread, is holding an open come-and-try event at Edinburgh Academy this weekend, Saturday 19 November 2016.
The Pirates of Penzance
★★★★☆ Stand out:
Entertaining, splendidly on song and given a nicely modern twist, the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group’s Pirates of Penzance is a treat on many levels.
Hearty endeavours
Eusog look deep for Pirate procedure:
Eusog’s production of The Pirates of Penzance this week is promised to contain a strong line in modernisation, as has become a tradition with the company’s Gilbert and Sullivan shows,
The Gondoliers
★★★★☆ Sugar-coated satire:
Good satire never dies but is endlessly topical, as Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society prove in their production of The Gondoliers at the King’s Theatre this week.
Venetian favourite for EdGAS
Late G&S favourite floats into town:
It’s all G&S and Gondoliers at the King’s this week as the Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society returns with an old favourite of the Savoy Opera repertoire.
