Greenside @ Riddles Court
Bombs Over Byker
★★★★☆ Pacy
Bombs Over Byker from Lucas English is a show with some big ideas, crammed into the smallest of venues at Clover Studio at Greenside @ Riddles Court.
CQD to SOS: A Titanic Story
★★★☆☆ Haunting
Bringing the Edinburgh Rep Company’s lineup of six centuries in six shows at the Fringe into the 20th century is CQD to SOS: A Titanic Story, a glimpse into the infamous sea disaster through the eyes of its wireless operators: two on Titanic herself and one on Carpathia, racing through the ice-filled night to render aid.
The Tale of the Original Jekyll and Hyde (Told by a Mad Hatter from Stockport)
★★★☆☆ Atmospheric
The Tale of the Original Jekyll and Hyde (Told by a Mad Hatter from Stockport) is a quiet historical comedy from Tall History Tales, which provides a bit of respite from the hurly burly of the Festival, despite being located in Riddles Court, just moments from the Royal Mile.
Gagula: The Panto With Teeth!
★★★☆☆ Energetic
Pig’s Ear Productions are back with another panto, this year moving away from Shakespeare and into another classic art form: drag.
Pantomeo and Juliet
★★★☆☆ Star-cross’d
Pig’s Ear Productions, the group responsible for last year’s Panto Macbeth are back with another heavily abridged and somewhat embroidered Shakespeare in Pantomeo and Juliet, at Riddles Court for the last week of the Fringe.
Moonswing
★★★★☆ Heartfelt
Simply Surreal revive their debut play Moonswing to celebrate ten years as a company. Playing at Greenside’s Riddles Court this is a coherent, touching play with a trio of consummate performances and some subtly powerful stage images.
No Place Called Home
★★★☆☆ Climate crisis drama
Whilst the production team and cast of No Place Called Home are predominantly students, ThirdCulture Productions are not a student led company. At a time when cuts to arts funding in Scotland are making the news again, it’s refreshing to see current and former students committing their immediate future to Edinburgh.
River time!
★★★☆☆ Brave
ADHD is a lot more than being late and losing your keys, Laura Thurlow tells us in her one woman show River Time! running at Greenside @ Riddles Court all Fringe.
Why do we lie?
★★★★☆ Fun
Why Do We Lie? by the Napier University Drama Society at Greenside’s Riddles Court uses a series of short comedy skits to explore the reasons and circumstances around why humans lie.
Panto Macbeth
★★★★★ Perfectly absurd
It’s panto. It’s Macbeth. It’s Panto Macbeth. What more do you want? The Mermaids Performing Arts Fund of St. Andrews University hurl a fifty-minute pantomime version of Shakespeare’s tragedy of Macbeth onto the Fringe stage, like a vulgar No-Fear Shakespeare crossed with traditional panto bits.
