Pinocchio gets his King’s on
New script sets King’s theatre at heart of panto plot
In a big meta-panto plot twist, the King’s Theatre itself is set to become a character in Pinocchio this year’s King’s pantomime which returns to the theatre for the first time since 2021.
Jack and the Beanstalk
★★★★☆ In rude health
Jack and the Beanstalk, the last time the ‘King’s panto’ appears at the Festival Theatre before its long-awaited return to the actual King’s, is another hugely enjoyable run-out for the established team of Allan Stewart, Grant Stott and Jordan Young.
Man’s Best Friend
★★★★☆ Beautifully performed
Man’s Best Friend by Douglas Maxwell is a Tron Theatre production ending its tour at the Traverse for three performances, and should certainly be caught while you still have the chance.
Bean team for Jack
Cast announced for “King’s Panto” at Festival Theatre
Capital Theatres is returning to what it knows for the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk, as the panto plays its final stint at the Festival Theatre before returning to the refurbished King’s in 2026.
Cinderella
★★★★☆ Sparkling
Cinderella at the Festival Theatre is yet another example of a spectacular family pantomime featuring the familiar talents of Allan Stewart, Grant Stott and Jordan Young.
Chemo Savvy
★★★★☆ Uplifting
Chemo Savvy, from Gilded Balloon and Ryan Dewar at the National Museum Auditorium in the Fringe’s last week, is an exploration of life and death that ends up as far more cheery (and far more touching) than you have any right to expect.
The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan
★★★★☆ Highflying
The Pantomime Adventures of Peter Pan turns out to be about 98% pantomime and 2% Peter Pan, but is tremendous fun nevertheless.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
★★★★☆ Reassuringly funny
The ‘King’s pantomime’ may have moved across to the Festival Theatre this year, but little else has changed in this year’s offering of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Sleeping Beauty
★★★★☆ Comforting
Familiar routines, eye-catching gimmicks and cheeky swagger are naturally present in Sleeping Beauty, this year’s pantomime at the King’s. And if something is unsurprisingly missing, it does pretty well in making up for it.
King’s Panto cast
Sleeping Beauty cast confirmed for King’s
Edinburgh’s panto triumvirate may be no more, but there will be a Gray on stage at the King’s this year, when panto giants Grant Stott and Allan Stewart are joined by Clare Gray in Sleeping Beauty.
