Review
Thrice
★★★☆☆ Intense
Thrice, stopping at the Traverse at the end of a short Scottish tour for two performances only, presents nine witches (three times three) in the aftermath of Macbeth
The Rhinestone Cowboy
★★★★☆ Direct
The Rhinestone Cowboy from Jaggy Edina is a deeply felt, visually impressive piece that has real impact.
PPP: Bottom’s Dream
★★★★☆ Smart
The last in this season of Òran Mór’s A Play, A Pie and A Pint at the Traverse, is a good one to go out on. Bottom’s Dream, written and performed by Martin O’Connor, is clever and constantly amusing, making necessary and cogent points about the theatre.
Iolanthe
★★★★☆ Satirical fairytale
The Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society makes a triumphant return to the King’s Theatre with Iolanthe, a magical musical experience in which the British government comes face to face with immortal fairies.
Jersey Boys
★★★☆☆ Nostalgic
The twentieth-anniversary of Jersey Boys hits the Edinburgh Playhouse stage with pizzazz and plenty of nostalgia for fans of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons in this jukebox musical tracing the rise, fall, and reinvention of the legendary group.
Sylvia
★★★★☆ Thrilling
Sylvia is a gorgeously melodic, exciting piece of theatre, sung brilliantly. The musical itself has undoubted flaws, but the performances more than compensate.
